Preparation before replacement
Determine battery model
Different car keys may use different battery models, which can generally be found in the car key manual, battery, or vehicle user manual. Common car key battery models include CR2032, CR2025, etc. Using mismatched batteries may cause the car key to malfunction or even damage the key.
Prepare tools and materials
Prepare a small screwdriver (such as a Phillips screwdriver), a specialized key battery replacement tool or pry bar, pry bar, etc. (some keys can be operated directly with mechanical keys), a new battery that matches the car key, and available towels or fabrics. At the same time, to avoid damage to the electronic components inside the car key caused by static electricity, you can touch a metal object before replacing the battery to release the static electricity on your body.
Replacement steps
Remove the mechanical key
There is usually a mechanical key in the remote control key. Press the red button on the remote control key and pull it out with force to remove the mechanical key.
Open the key casing
Folding mechanical key: After opening the mechanical key, the buckle can be seen from the folded position. Use a tool to push the buckle to open the shell.
Hidden mechanical key: The small key can also be used to pry open the key; You can also insert a Phillips screwdriver into the gap on the side of the key and carefully pry open the housing until it is fully opened.
General situation: You can also use a pry piece or pry bar to pry along the gap of the car key housing, completely pry open the key housing, and then separate the housing; You can also open the key by gently pushing the switch on the back of the key.
Remove the old battery
After removing the casing, you will see the button battery. Use a tool to gently remove the old battery, making sure to remember the placement direction of the positive and negative poles.
Install a new battery
Install the prepared new battery correctly in the corresponding position, paying attention to the correct direction of the positive and negative poles, ensuring that the positive and negative poles of the battery correspond to the positive and negative poles of the car key, otherwise the key may not work properly.
Restore key components
Restore the disassembled components to their original positions and carefully reinstall the casing and mechanical key. When restoring the key structure, pay attention to aligning one end of the two halves. If you hear a "bouncing" sound when pressing, it indicates that the installation is correct. If it is a hidden mechanical key, remember to reinstall it.
Test after replacement
After completing the above steps, you can press the car key button to check if the battery is sufficient. Place the car key with the replaced battery into the car keyhole, press the remote control button, and test the function of the key, including unlocking, locking, and starting the vehicle. If everything goes smoothly, it indicates that the battery replacement is successful.
precautions
Avoid touching the circuit board: During battery replacement, do not touch the buttons and circuits on the circuit board to prevent static interference or short circuits.
Prevent key damage: Do not forcefully disassemble the key. If the key is designed with a special safety lock, follow the instructions to operate it; Be careful when disassembling and installing the car key housing to avoid excessive force that may cause the housing to break or damage internal parts. If you encounter difficulties during the battery replacement process, do not forcefully operate it. It is recommended to consult a car dealer or professional maintenance personnel.
Avoid direct contact with the battery: Avoid touching the new battery directly with your hands, as the grease on your hands may affect the performance of the battery.
Regularly check the battery: It is recommended to check the key battery every six months to ensure its normal operation.
In addition, many high-end car models are equipped with smart keys with touch functions, which integrate lithium-ion rechargeable batteries inside. The remote key cannot be removed and must be replaced at a 4S store or directly replaced with a new key. Under normal charging and discharging frequencies, this rechargeable car key can be used for about 5 years without any problems.
